How to Encourage Someone
There are endless ways to encourage those around us. You just need to "keep your head on a swivel" and look for opportunities. Begin by thinking about the way you would like to be treated in a particular situation, and then treat someone else the same way. Pretty simple, eh? The thing to remember is not to flatter, but to look for qualities that shine in a person and then let them know about it. Look for Christ-like qualities in those around you and let them know you see it shining in and out of them. When someone is hurting, lift them up by giving them hope. Scripture is the best encouragement tool around, so use it liberally and wisely. The LORD gives us hope in tomorrow, so let those in need know that every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. And we are all sinners, striving to be more like Jesus. And remember, every one breathing needs encouragement. Spend time studying them, believe in them, and be there for them (share yourself).
So, the next time you feel like complaining, turn it around, be joyful, and offer a word of encouragement to someone nearby. It will make their day, and possibly their life. Be a Victor!
“Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I
may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I may
not forget you.”
William Arthur Ward
